Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot dead a Bangladeshi youth along the border at Bidyabagish village of Phulbari upazila here yesterday.
The dead is Moklesur Rahman, aged about 22, of the same village. He was a student of Phulbari Degree College.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sources said Moklesur was assisting a group of cattle traders near the border around 3:00am.
Noticing the incident, BSF men of Kussher Haat camp in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal fired three shots at him, leaving the youth injured.
His associates took him to Phulbari Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds around 8:00am.
Subedar Mohammad Ali, Kashipur company commander of 45 BGB Battalion in Kurigram, said they have sent a letter to the BSF in Dinhata of Cooch Behar protesting the killing.
